What sauce goes with stuffed peppers?
Hi! It’s my mum’s 50th Birthday today and so I want to make her a really special dinner.
I already have the starter planned out, and I’m going to make her a cake and then decorate it for pudding, but I’m a little stuck for the main course.
I’ve found a stuffed peppers recipe, and so I want to do that, but it didn’t come with any serving suggestions, and 1 stuffed pepper by itself will look a little small on a plate, so i was thinking of serving it with a sauce.
The trouble is, I’m only 18 and I don’t really have much experience with cooking food, so i don;t really know any sauces that would go with it. The pepper is being stuffed with egg, tuna, onions, raisins, and a few herbs, then being topped with grated cheese. Does anybody have a suggestion as to a sauce that would go well with it, and if so, do you have a recipe for it?

I hate to answer your question with a question, but I was wondering if stuffed peppers are something that you already know that your mum likes. If you’re wanting to cook her something really special for her birthday, I would suggest trying something that both you and she are familiar with – something you know for sure that she likes. If you definitely want to go with stuffed peppers, I must say, that is the most unusual filling for stuffed peppers that I have ever read. The recipe you found is definitely not one for traditional stuffed peppers, but perhaps you are from a country or region where this recipe is more familiar, even though it might sound strange to me. It would be very difficult for me to come up with a sauce that would complement this recipe well – perhaps it doesn’t need a sauce. If you concerned about one stuffed pepper looking a little small on the plate, I would consider a few things to put on the side. A crispy bread goes well with stuffed peppers, perhaps a small side salad, a serving of potatoes (however she likes them – mashed, chunked, roasted, fried, etc.), a serving of fruit (peeled, cut and prepared – don’t just throw a whole pear on the plate, of course), seasoned rice (traditional stuffed peppers are filled with a seasoned beef and rice mixture, but since your recipe has no rice, serving rice on the side would be acceptable), a serving of dairy (any kind of cheese you know she likes), etc. I’m not saying to serve all these things… just pick one or two things to serve on the side. And of course they don’t need to be any of the ideas I’ve listed… you know what she likes, so you are better-suited to come up with what to serve. I was just getting the ball rolling, so to speak. Again, I know you wanted a sauce, but I just can’t think of a sauce that would pair well with the combination of ingredients that your filling contains. Best of luck to you. No matter how it all turns out, your mother will appreciate that you tried very hard to make something nice for her birthday.
