How do I decorate a novely cake???
I want to decorate a chocolate mud slab with a picture of Thomas the Tank engine. I’ve found a picture to copy, but I am just wondering about the actual ‘how to’. i.e. do I need to use jam or something to seal the crumbs before Icing? What’s better – icing or frosting? How do I ‘neatly’ join different colours – should I use a piping bag and then smooth it over???
Actually – ‘icing’ made with ‘icing sugar’ and water gives a smooth, shiny covering, whereas ‘frosting’ is made with a tonne of whipped butter, milk/water and icing sugar is more like whipped cream – in my humble opinion!
You can also make a paint out of egg yolks and food coloring and paint the design on….just let each color dry before you continue. Also if you are near any Cake Decorating places, there is a computer paper that is made of edible rice paper and food coloring inserts for Canon and Epson ink jets that you can use to make pictures! Amazing!
